What You Will Do:
Job Specific Responsibilities:

• Pre-procedure Assessment: Cath Lab RNs conduct thorough assessments of patients scheduled for cardiac catheterization procedures or other interventional cardiac procedures. They review patients' medical histories, assess cardiac status, and ensure that all pre-procedure preparations are completed.
• Patient Preparation: Cath Lab RNs prepare patients for cardiac catheterization procedures by explaining the procedure, obtaining informed consent, and addressing any questions or concerns. They ensure that patients are appropriately positioned and comfortable before the procedure begins.
• Intra-procedure Assistance: Cath Lab RNs assist physicians and other members of the healthcare team during cardiac catheterization procedures, angioplasty, stent placement, electrophysiology studies, and other interventional cardiac procedures. They assist with catheter insertion, monitor patients' vital signs and cardiac rhythms, and provide support as needed.
• Monitoring and Intervention: Cath Lab RNs monitor patients' hemodynamic status, cardiac rhythms, oxygenation, and vital signs throughout the procedure. They recognize and respond to changes in patients' condition promptly, implementing interventions to maintain hemodynamic stability and ensure patient safety.
• Medication Administration: Cath Lab RNs administer medications as prescribed by physicians during cardiac procedures. This may include sedatives, analgesics, antiarrhythmics, anticoagulants, and vasodilators. They monitor patients' responses to medications and titrate doses as needed to achieve therapeutic effects.
• Post-procedure Care: Cath Lab RNs provide post-procedure care to patients recovering from cardiac catheterization procedures. They monitor patients for signs of complications, such as bleeding, hematoma, vascular injury, or allergic reactions to contrast dye. They assess access sites, monitor vital signs, and provide comfort measures as needed.
• Patient Education: Cath Lab RNs educate patients and their families about the cardiac catheterization procedure, post-procedure care instructions, and self-care strategies. They provide information about medications, dietary restrictions, activity limitations, and signs of complications to promote optimal recovery and prevent readmissions.
• Documentation and Record-keeping: Cath Lab RNs maintain accurate and detailed documentation of patient assessments, interventions, medications administered, and responses to treatment. Documentation is essential for continuity of care, communication with other healthcare providers, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
